Romancing the Machine
|
Constantly is what I have been doing since Day One. It's harder than I thought. Man is into doing so many things at a time like a writer writing so many different things and making them work together like man and machine. The computer is one man's ideal achievements in building a machine he can interface with like that multitasking he does. Man has been multitasking since the cave man days when he invented tools for hunting and weapons for war. He has been working on refining the way he does things like storing, retrieving and refining information, as information is ever changing in our world. So multitasking is nothing new. The world and environment is a giant multitasker in itself. Well, I have never been a great multitasker on the computer myself, even though in kindergarten I could write my own name. That was an achievement even if I spelled it the French way. I remember I had to come out to try to read the newspaper and watch the Dean Martin show when I heard his voice, when I was about four or five years old. I remember that we lived in the gray house on Calico Drive. Other things I remember but I will not mention them here. See, even as babies we are born multitaskers. The computer, however, is a different love game with its multitasking ability and numerous functioning programs. We can play games with it, balance the budget, do digital photography and taxes, among many more things. Well, man has not exactly got blood from stone, but he in a way has built the Information Highway by creating and making microchips from metal ore from rocks and in a way has gotten blood from stone in a metaphorical sense by tweaking the semi-conductor and being able to move information around on a microchip scientifically speaking as if I were a computer scientist when I am but an observer. As I glance at my computer my romance is solid and my love for the computer has come a long way from its infancy as my daily experience grows, but don't ask me to program anything, I don't know how. I have learned to put digital pics from my digital camera into my computer, but there is much more to know. Man has refined and keeps refining his tools and techniques. |
