VIDEO LENDING POLICY

  1. Patron must have a library card in good standing with Monon Town and Township Public Library. Patron must have a signed video policy sheet on file.
  2. Children under the age of 10 may borrow videos with parental approval.
  3. Nonresident students may not borrow videos.
  4. Limit: 4 videos per household.
  5. Loan period: 2 library working days, with the exception that tapes checked out Friday or Saturday are due Monday by 8:00 p.m. Some adjustments may need to be made for holidays.
  6. Reserves and renewals may be granted at the discretion of the Librarian. Renewals may be made by phone.
  7. Videos should be rewound and returned to the circulation desk or put in the video deposit located on the south side of the front steps.
  8. Late charge: $1.00 per day per video title. Maximum fine: $5.00 per title.
  9. Patron will be charged replacement cost if video cassette is damaged or cannot be returned. (Cassettes vary widely in price from $10 or less to $300 or more. Most of ours will average $30 to $70.)
  10. Videos are copyrighted. According to U.S. copyright laws, group showings are not allowed. Unless a video is labeled public performance, it is for private home viewing only. No duplication can be made.
  11. The library assumes no liability whatsoever which could result from the use of its video cassettes.
  12. If borrowing privileges are abused, these privileges may be revoked after review by the Librarian.
NOTE: To avoid damage to videos: never touch tape; keep at room temperature 2 hours before playing. Keep away from strong sunlight, heat, and anything that generates a magnetic field (vacuum cleaners, stereo equipment, motors, etc.)

INTERNET ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY

Use of the Monon Town & Township Public Library Internet computers is a privilege and entails responsibility. In order to use the library's computers, the user agrees to abide by the following agreements and statements.

  1. The Library has the right to set and enforce rules and regulations concerning the use of the Internet computers.
  2. Abusive conduct or violations of the conditions set forth in this document will result in the loss of access to the Internet computers. Monon Town & Township Public Library will be the sole arbiter of what constitutes abusive conduct or violation of the Internet Acceptable Use Policy.
  3. Users must refrain from inappropriate Internet conduct. Examples of inappropriate conduct include: use of the Internet for unlawful or malicious activities; misrepresentation of oneself, sending chain letters; using abusive or objectionable language in either public or private messages; engaging in harassing behavior such as sending or posting slanderous, libelous, obscene, or threatening messages; and other activities that could cause congestion and disruption of network systems.
  4. The following uses of library provided Internet access are not permitted:
    1. to access, upload, download, or distribute pornographic, obscene, or sexually explicit material.
    2. to transmit obscene, abusive, or sexually explicit language
    3. to violate any local, state, or federal statute
    4. to vandalize, damage, or disable the property of another individual or organization.
    5. to access another individual's or library's materials, information, or files without permission.
  5. Users must respect all copyright laws and licensing agreements pertaining to software, files or other resources obtained via the Internet.
  6. The Internet is not to be used for solicitation, advertisement, or for any other commercial purposes.
  7. Users will not store files on the library's computers. Computer settings and configuration may not be changed.
  8. The library makes no warranties of any kind, neither expressed nor implied, for the Internet access it is providing. The library will not be responsible for any damages users suffer, including--but not limited to--loss of data resulting from delays or interruptions in service.
  9. The library will not be responsible for the accuracy, nature, or quality, of information gathered through library provided Internet access. The library will not be responsible for unauthorized financial obligations resulting from library provided access to the Internet.
  10. Users should be aware that some material via the Internet may contain items that are illegal, defamatory, inaccurate, or potentially offensive to some people. Parents and guardians of minors are responsible for setting and conveying the standards that their children should follow when using media and information sources, including the Internet.

POLICY FOR USE OF INTERNET COMPUTERS

  1. Internet users should sign up at the circulation desk to use an Internet computer. Users must be in good standing (no overdues or lost/damaged material) to use the Internet.
  2. All people using the Internet must read and sign an Internet acceptable use policy. Children under the age of 18 must have parent/guardian permission to use the Internet.
  3. Elementary age children must use the Internet computers in the Children's Room unless accompanied by an adult.
  4. There is no charge for the use of an Internet computer. There is a charge for printouts. The charge is .10 (ten cents) for text only and .25 (twenty-five cents) for text and graphics.
  5. An Internet session is an initial one half hour. The session may continue past the initial half hour providing no one else is waiting to use the computer. Library staff will use their discretion in setting time limits for individual users.
  6. Use of an Internet computer is limited to 15 minutes from the hours of 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on school days
  7. The computers will be turned off 10 minutes before closing each day.
  8. No more than two people may use a computer at one time without special permission. The second person must have the consent of the person who is signed up to use the computer.
  9. The library does not offer e-mail accounts to the public. People may check their e-mail accounts providing they do not open attachments.
  10. Users may not access chat rooms or newsgroups with the library's computers.
  11. Downloading of files is not allowed.
MISUSE OF THE COMPUTERS OR INTERNET ACCESS WILL RESULT IN THE LOSS OF COMPUTER PRIVILEGES.

PROGRAM ROOM POLICY

The Monon Town & Township Public Library exists to serve the educational, informational and recreational needs of people of all ages in the community. The library's program room is open to individuals and groups sponsoring programs and activities consistent with this goal. The library staff will gladly help groups make use of library resources when planning their programs.
The library's program room (seating capacity 49) is available for use by the public as provided under the following rules and regulations.
ELIGIBILITY

  1. The program room is available to groups or individuals. Individuals shall be considered in the same manner as groups in the application of these rules governing the use of the program room.
  2. The library will not accept standing reservations. An application must be filled out each time the room is used.
  3. The program room in unavailable for:
  4. The library board of trustees has given the director the authority to supervise program room use and interpret these policies. The director has the right to waive the regulations whenever it is in the best interest of the community or the library The library board reserves the right to alter or waive the rules.

FEES

  1. Non-profit groups may use the room without charge, except when food is served.
  2. A room deposit of $25.00 is required upon reservation, but is refunded if no damage occurs. This should be paid when key is picked up. If the key is not returned the person making the reservation will be responsible for paying for rekeying.
  3. There is a $5.00 fee when food is served.
  4. There is a $75.00 fee when the program room is requested by a for-profit organization for monetary gain or training. This should be paid when a representative of the group picks up the key. This fee applies each day the room is used.
  5. The room may be used for money-making projects to benefit the library. A reasonable fee to cover expenses and supplies may be charged to those attending programs sponsored by the library.
  6. Individuals or groups reserving the program room may not charge an admission fee.
RESERVATIONS

  1. Tentative reservation may be made by phone. A written room reservation form must be completed by the official representative of the group who assumes responsibility for use. The library should be notified of cancellation a week in advance.
  2. Reservations are taken on a first-come basis. Library programs will always take precedence over all other scheduling. Non-profit groups will have precedence over for-profit groups.
  3. The library reserves the right to change reservations for the program room at any time.
USE OF ROOM

  1. The program room is available the following hours
    9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Monday-Saturday, excluding Sundays & holidays.
  2. The key may be picked up the day of the meeting. The key may be returned in the drop-box, or next day when the deposit is picked up.
  3. Users may not store equipment & supplies at the library.
  4. Responsible adults must be in attendance whenever minors are present.
  5. Users are responsible for arranging tables & chairs for their use and then returning them to the original arrangement. Please be sure lights are off.
  6. Alcoholic beverages and smoking are not allowed in the building.
  7. The group or individual reserving the program room takes full responsibility fur damages and will be charged-for damages. Abuse will be cause for denial of use of the room.
  8. The library assumes no liability for any loss or damage that may result from the use of the program room/sink area by the sponsoring body or attendees.

EQUIPMENT

Special arrangements must be made at time of reservation for use of library's audio-visual equipment.

SINK AREA

  1. Cooking of meals is not allowed. Light refreshments are permitted.
  2. Users are expected to provide their own supplies.
  3. Sink area should be left clean and tidy.
