Arne Kvaalen: A retrospective

Atist, Arne Kvaalen, born and raised in Montana, lives in West Lafayette where he has retired after 29 years of teaching art at Purdue University.  About his art, he says, “Landscape always has been my primary concern. In my early years it was the Western land from which I came. But in the last decades I have discovered the land along the Wabash. It is lush and verdant in contrast to the West, a gift of God to feed the world and inspire artists.”  Many of the works in this exhibition will come from regional private collections, and will include paintings in oil and acrylic along with his most recent creations in powdered pigment and pastels.

A Salute to Saturday Evening Post:

America's Oldest News Magazine

In the 1950s and early 1960s, millions of Americans gazed at The Saturday Evening Post from the privacy of their own homes and could see their own reflection within the art that was created for the covers. During this period, The Post commissioned America’s foremost artists to illustrate the news among them: Norman Rockwell, John Clymer, Stevan Dohanos, John Falter, George Hughes, and Amos Sewell. The Saturday Evening Post artists recorded changing American culture and traditions, from the re-statement of the Four Freedoms and political battles to the rituals of family life from holidays, to summer love, the adventures of childhood and the changing vistas of the American landscape. Thirty works from the collection of The Saturday Evening Post form the basis of this exhibition.
