Outsider

By Herbert Jerry Baker

I am not as others are

for I have wandered dark and far

‘neath leprous moon and dying star—

I am not as others be

for in my darkness I often see

Things which hunger to be free—

I am not as others seem

for I be lost in fevered dreams

in which my soul does naught but scream.

I am not as others be

for I have beheld strange destiny

which will traverse Eternity—

I am not as others are

for I have wandered much too far

and Death doth beacon from afar
