Moon Rainbows

The astronauts said
That stepping on the surface of the moon
Was like walking on volcanic ash
Or crisp new snow.  The ground kept
Crunching beneath their feet.  Millions
Of years of meteorites crashing
Into the lunar surface has melted
And re-fused the moon soil into little
Shards of glass.  That is why the moon
Shines so bright in the sky, trillions
Of shards of glass reflecting
The illumination of the sun.  The astronauts
Admired their shadows stretching
Long and lean across the bleak landscape
And wherever they walked their shadows
Were surrounded by halos of rainbows
Welcoming their arrival.
