Well, they got me convinced it was all in my mind.

They dug deep. I winced at the things they would find.

Oh, False Alien Abduction Blues

False Memory Induction Blues.

Hypnosis is the grossest distorter of the truth.

You've been traumatized by something quite real,

But it wasn't ET that made you cringe and kneel.

It was something as dark as a starless sky.

It lived hard and fast but it never died.

There WERE hurtful probes. You were forced to stand still.

It was horribly human.  Since then, you've been ill.

Something from The Unknown hurts a whole lot less

Than something from the home zone's wicked viper's nest.

Things half-remembered keep flashing through your brain.

Memory's been dismembered so as to ease the pain.

The “alien other” gives Evil a name.

ETs make you shudder but don't make you feel ashamed.

Sleep itself is a nightmare; you got the deep-sea bends.

It's a free-floating angst that never, never ends.
