Art Smart Programs

Art Smart: Indiana was written by Susan O. Chavers in 1986 and copyrighted for the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette. In 2008 Art Smart is being revised as an interactive web based program through a partnership between The Children's Museum, Purdue University and the AMGL. A $54,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences in Washington, D.C. (Museums for American Program) was awarded to fund the redesign and launch of Art Smart. As part of this project, Art Smart: Indiana, an Internet and web-based program is currently being designed to provide access to the history of Indiana, its art and artists from 1800 to present day.

Art Smart, planned as an on-line learning environment, is being developed by Professor Scott Schaffer, Purdue University, Department of Educational Technology along with Dr. Jeff Patchen, Ela Kramer, Leslie Power and Melissa Trumphy of The Children's Museum in Indianapolis.  Kathy Trout is writing the art educational units, and the AMGL Art Smart team includes Kendall Smith, Amanda Carmer, Sharon Theobald, Susan Chavers, Cheryl Rosenthal, and Trudi Meyers. Laurette Mc McCarthy, Ph.D. and Michael Atwell are curating the Art Smart Exhibition which will open on September 19, 2008 and continue through December 20, 2008. The Art smart project is scheduled for statewide release in May 2008.

A special feature, The Art Smart Institute for all teachers in the State of Indiana is scheduled for July 8, 9 and 10 at The Children's Museum in Indianapolis and The Art Museum of Greater Lafayette. Teachers who participate will receive educational credits from the State Department of Education. Registration is open and informational brochures are available at the Art Museum and at The Children's Museum.

The Art SmartAdvocates, a friends group, is also being launched for members of the Art Museum and the Greater Lafayette and Indiana community to help provide funds needs to maintain the web site and continue the needed support for Art Smart.
